The Solzhenitsyn Files

"This book presents, for the first time in English, files kept by the Soviet leadership on the writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The documents collected here originated at the highest levels of Soviet Communism - the Politburo, the KGB, the Foreign Ministry, the Secretariat of the Central Committee."--BOOK JACKET.

"Arranged in strictly chronological order, they tell the story of an epic hero from the point of view of his antagonists. As early success during Khrushchev's "Thaw" gives way to the manuscript confiscations and escalating scrutiny of the Brezhnev years, harassment and surveillance become a way of life and events move with a gathering inevitability.

The awarding of the Nobel Prize, the crisis surrounding The Gulag Archipelago, and ultimate expulsion and life in exile are only the great crescendos in a sinister symphony of secrets."--BOOK JACKET.

"The Solzhenitsyn Files is a monumental contribution to political and cultural history. Solzhenitsyn has long towered over the world literary landscape, and his unique stature derives in large part from the moral struggle that gives his work the weight of prophetic utterance. Now the reader may share the inner councils of those whose oppressive system gave this writer his subject, and whose unrelenting attacks provoked him to greatness."--BOOK JACKET.
