Ireland and her neighbours in the seventh century

"Irish society was first outside the Roman Empire to receive Christianity, and to do so in Latin, as was to become customary elsewhere in the West. Because of the use of Latin, Christian culture was accessible to non-Irish scholars, both at-home-and abroad. The 'long' seventh century (c. 563-731) presented in this book is comparatively well documented. Why did Christians come to Ireland from abroad? Why, by contrast, did Irish Christians leave their native country to live abroad?

How did manuscripts travel? These are some of the central questions posed in this book."--BOOK JACKET.
