The China dream

"For 700 years, ever since the time of Marco Polo, the world has seen China as an unrivalled opportunity for expanding trade. Century after century, businessmen have invested time and resources only to have the economy crash and their dreams turn to dust. Yet they always return. In the 1990s, foreign corporations committed over $300 billion of capital to China - more than to any other country in the world bar the United States. In this book, Joe Studwell tells the story of capitalism's quest for the greatest untapped market on earth, of the corporations for whom dream turned to nightmare and, in the light of her accession to the World Trade Organisation, of China's perennial ability to keep investors coming back."--BOOK JACKET.
